Indiana's First Lady Awards Grants To Fort Wayne Groups

Indiana’s first lady handed out grants today to 31 community organizations across the state, but the grants bring more than just money to groups in Allen County.

First Lady Karen Pence gave checks of $500-$1,000 to five organizations in Allen County. While every penny helps these nonprofits, the grants also bring recognition – and valuable publicity – to their causes.

Suzie Jordan is the executive director of the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank, which provides household items for people suffering from a disaster or misfortune. The group’s $1,000 grant will go toward fuel for drivers to pick up donations.

“We love the financial support but it’s the material donations that people may have an excessive amount of,” Jordan said. “I always like the opportunity to expand the awareness of what we do, and who we touch and the need for material donations as well.”

The grants go toward organizations that help Indiana youth and families.

Other Allen County grant recipients include the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and the Euell Wilson Center, which provides after-school programs for kids.
