Art Made Possible: Artlink's 212 Residency Program

Matt McClure sees 212 as another way to invest in opportunites for diverse visual artists.

Artlink has a new project aimed to advance and connect artists with their community, and foster the creative economy in our region and the world.

The residency program, which provides the space, creative tools and one-to-one mentorship to turn ideas into reality, is called 212.

This first round of residencies, kicked off in February, includes freelance artists working in film, animation, interactive coding, picture books and more. In short, as Artlink's executive director, Matt McClure explains it, "If it connects back to narrative, connects back to story in some way, that's a good starting point."

The next round of residency positions will begin in August, and here's a brief tour of the facility on-site participants will enjoy:

Intrigued by this creative concept, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with McClure, and a resident animator, Mackenzie Mayo, to learn the fine points of its design, and why it's called "Art Made Possible."

Application deadline for the next Residency Program is Friday, April 27th. For more information, and to apply online, visit the Artlink 212 website.

A Fort Wayne native, Julia is a radio host, graphic artist, and community volunteer, who has contributed to NIPR both on- and off-air for forty years. Besides being WBOI's arts & culture reporter, she currently co-produces and hosts Folktales and Meet the Music.
